May 2012
Inter-departmental Directive Received by
Dispatcher Mark Huckleberry:
Mark;
This is to recognize your proficiency during the
handling of the call from 37 Reba Avenue during the
night of April 28, 2012.
Your mannerism while handling the logistics of the
call, as well as being a calming voice for the
suspect, was imperative in establishing a safe
environment to which the responding officers and
rescue personnel could safely approach. This shows
the dedication to your position, as well as your
ability to maintain your composure, when faced with
such an adverse situation.
I appreciate and value your professionalism and am
proud that we have quality Telecommunicators like
yourself representing the City of Mansfield.
-Lori A. Cope, Service-Safety Director

E-Mail from Officer Paul Lumadue:
Please take the
opportunity to congratulate the young men and women
of the MPD Exploring program for their great job
yesterday. The Mansfield PD Post took 1st place
overall at the Heart of Ohio Law Enforcement
Explorer Competition (HOLEEC). They competed against
24 other outstanding Police Explorer programs from
all across the State of Ohio. Their hard work and
dedication paid off and they are now preparing to go
to the regional competition in Cincinnati, OH on May
19th and 20th and then to the National competition
in July.
Saturday's competition was the largest in the
history of the HOLEEC with 56 teams competing in 9
law enforcement skill scenarios at Mansfield Senior
High School. Several members of our department
helped make the competition a success and I wish to
thank Sgt Petrycki, Rich Miller, Jeff Gilis, Joe
Soenhlen, Stacie Garrick, John Fuller and John
Tingley again for their help yesterday.
The explorers also wanted to thank those officers
who helped them prepare for this competition and
assisted throughout the past year with training and
ride-alongs. These young people appreciate the
dedication, support and professionalism of the
officers who took their time to work with them and
help them learn about a career in law enforcement. I
wish to thank all of you for your support of this
program, it means a lot to these young people that
we, as a department, support this program
Letter
received by Ginger Antrican, Youth Coordinator:

for you do for Friendly House and the kids.
-Terry Conard, Director Friendly House Community Center
Letter
received by Officer Edwards:
Dear Officer Edwards;
I really appreciate you allowing me to ride along with you Thursday
morning. I learned a lot on all the calls and stayed
very interested the whole time. I also am thankful
for you allowing me to interact with each call we
went on. You were really interactive with me and did
a great job of helping me understand the police
system a little better. Going into Thursday, I had
always wanted to a forensic investigator; I had
always thought my mind was set on a one track patch
and there was no changing it. Instead, Thursday made
my decision more difficult and opened my eyes to a
much broader spectrum and I thank your for that.
Also, thank you for keeping our community safe. Spending eight
hours in a police cruiser gave me a better
perspective on the safety, you as well as all the
officers, provide Mansfield. I truly am grateful for
all you do. Hopefully, I will be seeing you again
sometime soon!

E-Mail
Received by Chief Sgambellone:
Chief,
I wanted to share with you our
appreciation to your dispatch and Ptl. D. Chatman
for assisting myself and my daughter (21 yoa), this
past Saturday morning, with a crash report. My
daughter was home from college for the weekend and
Friday evening, at approximately 10:00 pm, in the
area of Rippling Brook and Straub, a deer jumped out
in front of her vehicle, which resulted in a
collision between the vehicle and the deer. I can
only imagine what that experience was like for her
as she had never been through anything like that
before!! Upon her arrival home, we had
her contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol who
advised she would have to do a report with Mansfield
Police Department, but could wait until the morning.
Early the next morning, my daughter and I arrived
at MPD and contacted dispatch; the dispatcher was
extremely helpful and gave clear direction as to
what needed to be done in order to file the report.
Officer Chatman arrived and took the report from my
daughter. She also took photos of the damage to the
vehicle. My daughter, who had never gone through an
experience like this, felt at ease and well informed
after speaking with Officer Chatman; My daughter
knew exactly what her next steps were, regarding
insurance, once the report was completed.
Although this may be a small event in the grand
scheme of things, we felt it important to share this
positive experience with your department and our
appreciation for the professionalism and kindness
extended to us. Every little bit makes a huge
difference when you add it all up.
