MOMENTS OF OPPORTUNITY IN POLICE SERVICE

The Mansfield Police Division implemented the web-based Moments of Opportunity in Police Service in 2012 with the view that each citizen contact is an opportunity to win the respect, trust and support of the community. Recognizing the community is the first line of defense against crime and the most essential component in preventing it, positive citizen contacts will reinforce the community’s resolve to help us develop safer neighborhoods through community partnerships and participation.

A community’s willingness to cooperate is born out of the level of trust, respect and support they have for their police. All police personnel can leverage public support, trust and respect by embracing and promoting enhanced customer service in policing. This forum will allow you to view what others have said about the Mansfield Police Division.

Citizen Survey received by Chief Dino Sgambellone:

I am speaking on behalf of the Security Officers at MedCentral.  The professional working relationship that has developed between MPD and our department is very much appreciated.  The dispatchers are great, the officers responding to our needs are very helpful and professional.  The employees in the records department need to be mentioned and commended as well.  They  are very helpful and courteous.  We look forward to your continued success and working relationship in order to provide the community with a more friendly, safer place to live, work, and raise a family.

Letter received by Chief Dino Sgambellone:

On Wednesday, March 15, 2012, Officers Grimshaw and Gearhart, along with Probation Officer Cox were extremely helpful in securing a severely mentally ill person who became violent and The Center for Individual and Family Services. The Officers remained calm and professional and treated the client with dignity despite the fact that he resisted and became very physical with the Officers. They arrived with perfect timing and saw to it that he was able to secured and transported to MCM for stabilization. Center staff requested that I send this letter of appreciation to you and your Officers. Thank you for a job well done!

-V. Groff, President & CEO, The Center for Individual and Family Services

Letter received by Chief Dino Sgambellone:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in responding to the aggravated robbery/home invasion that took place at 1337 Sungate Drive on March 13, 2012. Each responding agency took part in the search for the two suspects in this incident in one form or another. At this time our office is still moving forward in the investigation of this incident. One individual has been apprehended at this time and we continue to work out loose ends. This incident could not have been done without your assistance. It was difficult to thank everyone that responded due to the amount of individuals on the scene. Could you please let those from your agency, that responded, know that we greatly appreciated their assistance in this matter. Teamwork does make a difference.

-J. Steve Sheldon, Richland County Sheriff

E-mail received by Sergeant Joy Stortz:

On behalf of myself and my class, thank you so much for your presentation last Monday.  I heard only positive comments concerning the presentation and students have talked nonstop about your information and the Youtube clips.

-D. Hendershott, Associate Professor, Human Services, North Central State College

Letter received by Deputy Chief Smith:

We wanted to thank you and all the others who donated so very generously to Project Cuddly Comforts. We are currently making more animals for other area departments and the Sheriff's Office as well as another patch specifically for the Mansfield Police Department. The donations will be used to buy more fiberfill and safety eyes as we are running low again. Thanks again.
